Itinerary Sunday, July 9 - Registration at the Oasis Hotel. Welcome night at Aptera Beach Resort. Monday - Options day (see options). Tuesday - Boat tour from Kissamos to Balos beach and Gramvousa Island and fortress. On our return, the bus will take us to Falasarna and dinner at the Panorama Hotel (a 2014 favorite!). Wednesday - Therisso lunch by train (www.funtrain.gr). We depart the hotel by 1pm, arrive in Therisso by 1:30. We leave by train at 4pm, returning to Oasis at 4:30. The evening is free. Thursday - Amoudari Doxologia at Ieros Naos, swimming in Frangokastello, dinner in Sfakia with an option to stay overnight in Loutro. Friday - Free during the day, Farewell dinner at Melintáou in Therisso. Saturday, July 15 - We check out and say our goodbyes. Tuesday's schedule includes a boat ride to Balos beach, a truly amazing location that is hard to describe. After a few hours on the beach, the cruise continues to Gramvousa island. After we return to Kissamos, we will take a short bus ride to Falassarna and return for a sunset meal at the Panorama hotel, as we did in 2014.
Thursday's itinerary includes a trip to the southern shores and Frangokastello. There is an old castle on the beach and the view of the castle from the water is beautiful. After the beach we will spend the afternoon in Sfakia where everyone is free to choose a restaurant to have a meal. Afterwards, our bus will return us to Chania. Another option, rather than returning that day, is a ferry boat ride to Loutro, about 15 minutes west of Sfakia. You can stay overnight and return on the next day, which is an open day on the schedule. I strongly urge that you consider this. Loutro is amazing and offers a quiet, unique break from the busy week of events. More details on this option to come. Nestled in between these two days above, we have various small excursions planned. A train ride to Therisso is in the works, repeating one of the favorite events of 2014. Lunch in the village with free time allows us to see more of Therisso than time allowed in 2014.
Options On our free days, our transportation company will offer us a smaller bus to us to these optional destinations. This depends on how many people want to take these trips, so please let us know if any of these options are on your agenda. The tour bus company offered us another option, a tour of three destinations east of Chania. The Arkadi Monastery, the village of Vrises, and the town of Rethymnon. See the Online Resources page for links to more information.
These tours are available from Chania Wine Tours, and include pick-up and drop-off services, if enough people want to go. See their website for more info. |
