More Details

Tuesday's schedule includes a boat ride to Balos beach, a truly amazing location that is hard to describe. After a few hours on the beach, the cruise continues to Gramvousa island. After we return to Kissamos, we will take a short bus ride to Falassarna and return for a sunset meal at the Panorama hotel, as we did in 2014.

Thursday's itinerary includes a trip to the southern shores and Frangokastello. There is an old castle on the beach and the view of the castle from the water is beautiful. After the beach we will spend the afternoon in Sfakia where everyone is free to choose a restaurant to have a meal. Afterwards, our bus will return us to Chania. Another option, rather than returning that day, is a ferry boat ride to Loutro, about 15 minutes west of Sfakia. You can stay overnight and return on the next day, which is an open day on the schedule. I strongly urge that you consider this. Loutro is amazing and offers a quiet, unique break from the busy week of events. More details on this option to come.

Nestled in between these two days above, we have various small excursions planned. A train ride to Therisso is in the works, repeating one of the favorite events of 2014. Lunch in the village with free time allows us to see more of Therisso than time allowed in 2014.

The farewell dinner menu has been finalized. The price is an amazing 25 € a person.

Options

On our free days, our transportation company will offer us a smaller bus to us to these optional destinations. This depends on how many people want to take these trips, so please let us know if any of these options are on your agenda.

NEW! Rethymnon-Arkadi-Vrises

The tour bus company offered us another option, a tour of three destinations east of Chania. The Arkadi Monastery, the village of Vrises, and the town of Rethymnon. See the Online Resources page for links to more information.

Fun Train
For the free day train tours, the bus company will offer us a smaller bus to take us west of Chania to Platanias, where the fun train is based, and we can hop on the train from there. Afterwards, the bus will take you back to the hotel, or you can take a taxi back from Palatnias. To learn more about the trains, see their website. Charma brewery and the German war cemetery are included in the Southern Comfort tour.

Wine Tours

These tours are available from Chania Wine Tours, and  include pick-up and drop-off services, if enough people want to go. See their website for more info.

Water Park
Located in Varipetro, this is a great location for families, or for those who just want to unwind for the day. It was a popular destination in 2014. To learn more, see the website.

Botanical Gardens
From their website: Nearly 20 hectares of land are waiting to welcome you, full of fruit trees from all over the world, herbs, medicinal and ornamental plants in a park different from others, where the land’s formation and the region’s microclimate make it a paradise for hundreds of plants and animals!
